Bryce and I would begin a jam session by, either him or myself, presenting a melody to one another. For this song in particular, I had premeditated a simple motive using an virtual instrument, within Cubase 5, that utilized a swelling effect. After presenting the motive to Bryce, for what appeared to be less than a minute, he blended a lush guitar melody that syncopated my keyboard motive. The result was an ambient soundscape that we used in a following performance.
My keyboard motive consists of three distinct phrases that moves towards upward octaves in a cyclical manner. Bryce then complimented such phrasing with a simple yet graceful cyclical melody.
The reason I love this piece so much is because it appears that no tempo is needed to achieve the sound created. It is as if Bryce's melody hangs over my more pulse driven phrasing.
Memo (4) below is an Iphone recording that Bryce posted to his SoundCloud page. The recording only includes my keyboard motive and his guitar melody, I mentioned this because, durning that jam session, Bryce also incorporated drums while his guitar melody looped.
