I began writing the variational Brüderlich score by choosing specifics scenes from the film that I felt were most compatible with my thematic ideas. A simple melodic phrase, the main theme, first heard at the beginning of the film continues throughout the remainder of the piece, though heard more apparently in some scenes then others. The only scene in which it was completely eliminated is the scene that directly follows the first introduction of the main theme. This second theme was built around specific movements within the scene. The dripping of the liquid into the glass was the main movement of focus. I then built the remainder of the second theme around this video and audio syncopation. Although the first theme is heard throughout the piece, additional layers were built upon it which in essence created two additional themes.
Unfortunately, because I spliced the original film in Cubase, I was unable to directly export the edited version, the video lacks the clarity of the original and often lags in scenes where movement was precisely syncopated with the audio. Such complications were due to me having to record a screen shot of the edited Cubase version. I then imported the screen shot into Cubase which then allowed me to precisely sync the edited version on the film with my variational audio score.
