A short transport in the white van, provided by the school, dropped all students off at the main entrance to the school where we were welcomed by unfamiliar California Summer Music faculty members.
At this point we were given information on room assignment. My room was located on the second floor of a two story building with a window view that overlooked a grassy foyer, separating a symmetrical building of dormitories opposite of ours.
It was a large bright room with high ceilings, that held the California sun so well that the use of synthetic lighting was not necessary until dusk. Parallel and to the right, when entering the room, was a large walk in closet, almost half the size of the loft bedroom that I shared with my two brothers back home. Positioned along the far right wall was a set of wooden bunk beds both covered in crisp white linens. And to the left, in a row, stood two large wooden desks furnished with shelving, that appeared to nearly reach the height of the ceiling, and corresponding chairs. And most importantly, in the center of the room sat a Yamaha Clavinova, a digital piano with features similar to both an acoustic and a digital piano, facing the grassy foyer.
I was specifically assigned to room with a piano performance student so that the two of us would have access to the Yamaha Calvinova, as all rooms were not equipped with one.
