The Robert Louis Stevenson School, currently know as the Stevenson School, is a private day and boarding school for coeducational students. Founded in 1952 by Robert Ricklefs, The Stevenson school opened six worn down buildings on 17 acres of land to 18 male students. The school has since flourished requiring two campuses, located in Pebble Beach and Carmel, California spanning 50 acres of land, to accommodate a student body of 750.
Robert and his wife, Marian, named the school in honor of the Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson, whose tales were inspired by his stay in the Monterey Bay area.
