The California Summer Music faculty did their best to keep all students preoccupied in the late evening hours when all lectures, lessons, and master classes had finished. Students were given the choice to participate in the activities, however, remaining at the school, alone in your dormitory, did not seem much like a good alternative.
A large yellow school bus approached the main entrance to the school where faculty members did their best to keep students organized in a straight line preparing them for boarding.
As we road off in the yellow school bus I made a mental note of the route we were taking, reasoning that I may want to return one day when I had some free time. Along the way, the driver announced, over the pa, landmark homes and their net worth, all ranging in the millions of dollars.
The bus stopped opening its doors and excited students flooded the beach with thunderous cries. The faculty members who had chaperoned us and a few students, including myself, remained behind to carry the large coolers of what was to be our dinner.
After we had finished a picnic styled dinner faculty members made their rounds taking a photo of each student. Explaining that they would be used to make a collage, which would be hung in the lobby of the main building for the remainder of the camp.
As the sun began to set a male faculty member lit the pre arranged pile of firewood. It's amber hues blazed against the, now almost invisible, sun setting along the horizon. Students and faculty members then each took turns telling stories, mostly suspenseful, while those attentively listening, with wide eyes, roasted marshmallows. As the bomb fire began to die, faculty members once again rounded us up for boarding of the yellow school bus.
The next evening I couldn't help but noticed that the collage the faculty members had spoken of was hanging on a wall in the lobby. When no one was looking I quickly snatched my photo from the cardboard poster, shoving it into my pocket, knowing that one day I would want to look back upon it, when reminiscing.
