A Formal Invitation

Just as I had given up all hope of studying music composition over summer break, Ms. Richardson strode quickly down the hallway toward me. I couldn't help but notice a large brown envelope, with a contrasting white adhesive address label, in her hand. Because of the distance that was still between us I was unable to make out exactly who it was addressed to. She stopped directly in front of me handing me the envelope with a wide smile across her face. I felt an initial burst of excitement which quickly turned into fear. Mixed thoughts ran through my head as I quickly torn the envelope open. I noticed that there were multiple items inside and I gathered that such excess materials could only be a good sign.

I pulled out the first item, a letter from the school's board addressed to me, and quickly began to scan the contents of the page. It read, "The board would like to extend a formal invitation to Tomasso ______  to study with 52 students from around the world at California Summer Music held in Pebble Beach, California.

Ms. Richardson was nervously eyeing me to see my response while I read the document, and when I confirmed an acceptance with a large smile, she too smiled and congratulated me.
