SWELL (Original)

August, 13 2011 marked the launch of the SWELL series project. The project was first heard as the audio backdrop to the first Who is Tomasso Antonio promotional video, minus the theme.

The SWELL series project began as a minimal, mainly instrumental, idea. This was a perfect match for the minimal September 2011 Who is Tomasso Antonio video campaign. The SWELL (Original) audio backdrop incorporates a string, melodic, and bass section with accompaniment of a single bass drum, whose primary duty was to provide a minimal percussive element. 

The theme section later presented itself as I lied in bed desperately trying to fall a sleep. This seems to be a common reoccurrence. Ideas presenting themselves when I should be sleeping. The construction of the theme was yet again another challenge. This time, the challenge was recreating audio that swelled upward on a repeating quarter note pattern. After much constructing and reconstructing it was determined that a main volume increase was necessary to create such an effect. This required a volume pattern that increased from values 20 to 50 for each quarter note. This value pattern was then positioned so that second half of the increase would match up with beginning of each eighth note. In other words, the volume would increase from the values 36 to 50 at the beginning of each eighth note, and the second half of each eighth note would increase from values 20 to 35, when thinking of each quarter note as a two tied eighth notes. 

After theme refinement, the percussive section was assembled.
