I remember clearly my first exposure to the Canadian band, the Stills. There was a special on MTV about the next 10 bands to keep your on. The special was presented as a documentary styled program that interviewed each of the 10 bands.
While The Stills were being interviewed, one of their songs, which I later found out was Killer Bees from their Remeberese EP, was playing in the background. I was immediately draw to their writing style and almost instantly became a fan. Their songs were abundant in instrumental layers which created beautiful melodic passages.
The TV special was successful, as I found myself browsing record stores on a regular basis hoping to find a release from the band. However, it was not until I was in New York City at Tower Records that I stumbled across an album. It was their first EP titled Remeberese.
Sadly, the band has announced their intentions to break up. Luckily, I got to experience the band live on more than one occasion. I say with much confidence that The Stills will always be my favorite band and it will take much persuasion, from that of a new artist, to alter my view on the subject.
