Once again, I found myself in the midst of relocating due to educational endeavors. I've always claimed that relocation exposes one to new experiences.
While on my way to school, a highway billboard grabbed my attention from the monotony of the road. It was a poster of a girl dressed in iridescent apparel wearing elbow and knee pads and roller skates. The poster read, "Live Roller Derby." The movie Whip it immediately came to mind. Most would agree that movies, often times, are quite a stretch from reality. Including those movies that claim to be inspired by true events. In the movie Whip-it a poster girl reference was made about the main character Bliss Cavendar, the actress Ellen Page. How she was to be the teams next poster girl. And just as quickly as I was recalling the scene, It struck me that such a phenomena did truly exist. Poster girls and all.
I've always welcomed the invitation of a new experience. This, I guarantee, will be no different and it will not be excluded. I eagerly anticipate the approach of the league's next home tournament.
