The Ultimatum

After lecture, Mr. Lewis notified me of a request for a special meeting with him in his office, in addition to the required meeting with him each weekday for critique of my composition. I had an inkling as to why he had requested to see me, given the continual growth of tension between us.

When I arrived at his office he was seated at a piano. Not offering me a seat, I stood facing him. He then began to explain that the situation between us was not working out. I nodded in agreement. He then proceeded by giving me an ultimatum. He said that if I did not begin to compromise, that he would have no other choice then to send me home early. Aware that I was not wanting to leave camp early, I agreed that I would begin to compromise. Within seconds Mr. Lewis' mood lightened. He then reluctantly admitted, that on his walk to lecture today, he found himself humming my piano duo's melody. He assured me that with instruction from trained individuals, such as himself, I could learn to build off of such catchy melodies, making them much more sophisticated.

Confused by the outcome of our meeting, I thought to myself, how did the two of us reconcile the opposition between us in fifteen minutes considering that it had taken us weeks to build.
