The Itinerary

The weeks could not pass quickly enough as summer break drew near. Thankfully, I was distracted by worried teachers, in their haste to cram every last lesson in before then end of the term, bombarding all students with a multitude of assignments that were to be completed in the short weeks to follow. As if the excessive amount of schoolwork was not enough I was concurrently trying to maintain instructors standards in piano, cello, and composition lessons, all while writing the piano duo that was to be completed at California Summer Music.

I was notified, by Ms. Richardson, that the Friends of the Cleveland School of the Arts had requested another meeting with me regarding my travel arrangements. I reluctantly pulled myself from my studies, feeling dizzy from the numerous deadlines buzzing in my head, and headed for the Friends of the Cleveland School of the Arts office.

The soft spoken women that had assisted me in our first meeting, greeted me at the door immediately offering me a seat. I quickly sat down eager to hear what she had to say. The woman explained that all necessary travel arrangements had been made. And that my itinerary included a nonstop flight departing from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and arriving at San Francisco International Airport. From the airport, I would connect with a bus that would drive me, roughly two hours, along the coast. California Summer Music would then provide a shuttle, making hourly rounds for the better half of a day, for students transport to the school. She also explained that as a minor, I would need a letter, from a legal guardian, authorizing my intentions of traveling independently. Lastly, the woman said to notify the office once I had a acquired a letter of permission and the office would then arrange another meeting to present me with all vouchers needed for my travel itinerary.

Leaving the office I felt a jolt of excitement, realizing that in the very near future I would be on my way across the country to study music composition in the company of my peers.
