The Cello

Though I was able to practice, while at school, with one of the cellos provided by the school, such a limitation was not adequate for practice and lessons outside of the schools vicinity.

While attending Ascension elementary school I was an alter boy per my parents request. I recalled that there was a mid sized stringed instrument, covered in a soft brown case, remotely situated in the back room where the priests vestments where also concealed.

Hoping that my memory had served me correctly, I called the church inquiring about the mysterious instrument last seen during my elementary school years as an alter boy. I was informed that the instrument was still situated in the back room and that it was in fact a cello. The priest explained that, years back, a cellist used to perform on Sunday liturgies and that the instrument had been forgotten when the cellist parted with the church. I then proceeded to ask if I could potentially borrow the instrument for practice and lessons while in school. The priest insisted that I have the instrument under the condition that I could afford the necessary repairs. Receiving such an offer was not to be refused.

After arranging a meeting to pick up the cello I found it to be in almost perfect condition. It simply required a new sound post and bridge, a set of replacements strings, and the rehairing of the bow.
