Residency

After leaving the mysterious West Logan Boulevard apartment our family relocated to an apartment in the city of Lakewood. This second residency, again, stirs no memories. Though, this time, concrete evidence is available. Looking back, there were countless opportunities for me to revisit the Clifton Boulevard apartment. Though my curiosity was never strong enough to put into action.

The primary difference between this apartment and the last was that stories of apartment were passed on to us children. One particular reoccurring story, relative to my experience there, was often shared. Many apartments in the Lakewood area are duplexes. They, often times, are large historic homes. The Clifton Boulevard apartment was exactly that. A large historic duplex that lacked proper insulation. The winters are harsh in that part of the country and a drafty apartment did not provide favorable living conditions for a baby. As a result I spent the better part of a year unsuccessfully fighting illnesses, including incessant ear infections.

This particular story may not have been the best choice to have me associate with my time spent there. Considering, incessant ear infections is not an optimal start for a future composer. However, in the words of Friedrich Nietzsche, "That which does not kill us makes us stronger."
